Welcome to Portraits of Spirit. I am Jeff Martyn, a psychic artist, a psychic and medium. This particular gift enables me to draw portraits of people who have passed into the spirit world. I will give you an insight into what it is like to develop such a gift as psychic art.
It is, as yet, an unusual form of mediumship in which the psychic artist is able to produce an image of a person, who has passed to spirit, by using pencils, pastels and various other materials.
I have tried to make this site as interesting, informative and informal as possible so that anyone can benefit from my experiences. I have developed and have been a practitioner of this ability since July 2002 which is 8 years ago and still find it fascinating and inspirational, especially when a drawing is recognised.
It all began in March 2002 when a psychic artist came to give a demonstration at Stockport Christian Spiritualist Church which is the church I go to. When the service was over I asked his wife if I could have a look at the example of his work which was shown earlier. She agreed and I was hooked. I spent nearly an hour with the artist and his wife talking about the subject explaining that although I had no formal art training, one of my interests was painting in oils and sketching, particularly faces.
From then on I drew faces....more faces and yet more faces as I was advised to do. My first efforts were comical as you can see from this picture here. He looks as though he's going to explode doesn't he, with those big bulging eyes All my portraits at this time had this squeezed look about them. I couldn't seem to get away form this look but gradually I did learn to get the proportions right. Click on the picture to see some more of my early efforts.
As a matter of interest, psychic art isn't practiced psychically, which describes the ability to describe material events, past, present and future events in the recipients life, using various tools such as, tarot cards, crystal ball, tea leaves etc. Psychic art is just a term used to describe this kind of mediumship.

This last one is where, instead of drawing and giving messages during the demonstration, the psychic artist draws the portraits at home and brings them to the demonstration. I've tried this and it's surprising how well it works.
